The TORNIO '44 rules manual version 1.3 (both the English and the Finnish versions) is finished and has been printed at the printers.
To order a high quality printed copy of the manual, go to the "To Order" menu (at the bottom of the page).
To download the manual as a low quality pdf, go to the "The Games" menu.

This is the final version of the rules for the TORNIO '44 game.
I will from now on sell the TORNIO '44 game with the 2nd edition map.

In September, I will continue working on the new game that will hopefully be released during the first half of 2017.

A final version of the TORNIO '44 Rules Manual (version 1.3) is in the works. This version will also be released in Finnish and finished in 2-3 weeks.

Both the English and the Finnish version of the Rules Manual 1.3 will be both downloadable on my website and printed digitally at the printers end of April (as a 1-year anniversary of the game). Each printed manual will cost 4 EUR + shipping cost. Since I cannot afford to print the manual offset, a digital version will do but this means also that I can print-on-demand.

The difference between the versions 1.2 and 1.3 is not very big. Only minor improvements and an additional optional rule (31.6).

March 12th, 2016
Change of plans. I will from now on work only on the new game project that will be released sometimes in early 2017. The upgraded rules manual for The Finnish Trilogy will be delayed until 2018. The reason is that I have recently started to work full-time on a daytime-job so the amount of time for my game projects will be very limited. To ensure that I will stay on schedule, I have to put all my remaining time and effort on the new game, which has a greater priority than the upgraded trilogy rules.

The new game is going to be something special and it is going to be the most unique game project that I have designed and developed so far. I will start to reveal more about this game later this year.

I have sold over 650 TORNIO ’44 games so far. I still have almost 2,400 games remaining and a huge dept (€10,200 EUR) to pay for printing all these games. Yes, I know, I was probably a complete fool to print 3,050 games (!) that is on such an obscure topic, but the reason is that I enjoyed the game a lot during playtesting and I believe that there are a lot of gamers who once in a while want to play games on obscure topics. I hope that more gamers will give this rather unique and fun little game a try.

A new TORNIO '44 Rules Manual (version 1.2) as a printable low resolution pdf-file can be found in "The Games" menu. The difference with this version to the earlier versions are: additional 8 pages (it is now 24 pages), all errata up til now have been fixed, more clarifications, new font (Times New Roman), larger text (11 pt instead of 10 pt), and more "air" on each page. This version will very likely also be printed at the printers and sold separately. I will let you know when I know more when this will happen and what the price will be.

I have started to work on the revised (2.0) version of The Finnish Trilogy Master Rules Manual and some Order of Battle pages. The goal is that this material will be finished sometimes during 2016.

I have also started to work on a new game. The plan is that this game will be released sometimes during 2017 when Finland is celebrating 100 years as an independent country. So yes, the game will have something to do with Finland (once more and probably for the last time). Other than this, I will reveal nothing until end of 2016.

Dear Gamers,

I received the game boxes yesterday afternoon (not Thursday as they first promised). This means that I managed to ship only 20+ games yesterday before the Post office closed. All remaining (100+) games will be shipped on Monday to all of you who have placed a pre-order or regular order for the boxed version of the game. From now on, I will be able to ship both the ziplock version and the boxed version of the game within 1-2 days once I have received an order.

Sorry about this. I have been rather frustrated myself the last couple of weeks for this incredibly long delay.

/Miku

May 27th, 2015
The TORNIO '44 game boxes arrive tomorrow (Thursday). I will ship as many pre-orders as possible tomorrow and the remaining orders on Friday.

May 12th, 2015
Unfortunately, there are further delays with the TORNIO '44 game box!
The boxes will arrive to Sweden sometimes during week 22 (hopefully on Monday, 25th of May). I will prepare everything so that when I have them, I can start shipping them immediately (the very same day).
To compensate this delay, I will add two extra dice for free in the game box to all who have ordered the boxed version of the game until now.
Sorry for this inconvenience!
/Miku

The quality of all components are very high. I'm very pleased.
Pictures of the components will be uploaded tomorrow (Saturday) here:

I have also received the dice (included in the boxed version of the game) and most of the packing material.
I will start to ship the ziplock version of the game on Monday 27th.

Unfortunately, the Game Boxes will be delayed 2-3 weeks! Sorry about that! They are the only game component that is not made in Sweden but in Holland.

The pre-order window for TORNIO '44 closes on Monday 27th at 12.00 Swedish time!

April 22nd, 2015
Only a few days left to place a pre-order for the TORNIO '44 game.

Latest News from Mikugames

The TORNIO ’44 game:
I’m currently one week behind schedule. The main reason is that the microfilms of the German documents that I was studying in the National Archives in Helsinki revealed some inaccuracies in the German Order of Battle. I also needed to add a couple of more German units and markers. I managed to squeeze an additional column of counters in the countersheet. This means that the game will include 228 counters (instead of 216 counters).

The playing time of the game has increased to 6-10 hours (instead of 4-6 hours).
The complexity level has also increased from a 4 to a 5 (on a scale from 1 to 10).

The German units (of the Army) will have a darker green/gray color than what was the case before.

The pre-order price will remain the same until the pre-order period has ended, which will be on April 26th at 24.00 hours Swedish time.

Due to some added expenses, the retail prices for the game will increase. The new retail prices will be:
TORNIO ’44 - boxed version with dice = 44 EUR (+ shipping cost).
TORNIO ’44 - ziplock version (no dice) = 34 EUR (+ shipping cost).

I have received only positive comments so far on the unique combat system included in the game. Here is a summary of the combat system in the TORNIO ’44 game:
1). The odds ratio of a combat is calculated in the same way as is done in most wargames.
Instead of consulting a regular Combat Results Table (CRT) that includes a number of columns based on the odds ratio, the odds ratio tells you how many dice are to be rolled by each of the two sides (players) in the actual combat.
Example: The attacking player has four units and the defending player has two units in the combat. The final odds ratio is 3:1 (in favor for the attacking player). The attacking player rolls three dice and the defending player rolls 1 die. This means that the first number in an odds ratio always refers to the number of dice that the attacking player has to roll (in this case three), and the second number always refers to the number of dice that the defending player has to roll (in this case one, which is also most common). The attacking player always rolls his dice first.
2). The attacking player totals the number of the dice rolled. The result is converted into Action Points (APs). The defending player then must spend those APs on combat actions.
Example: The attacking player rolled his three dice and received 3 + 4 + 5 = 12. The defending player must spend 12 APs of combat actions on his unit(s).
3). There are six different combat actions in the game:

  • No Effect - costs 1 AP. May only be used (spent) when only one die was rolled.
  • Broken 1 Level - costs 2 APs.
  • Broken 2 Levels - costs 3 APs.
  • Retreat - costs 2 APs (Retreat = all units in one hex must retreat one hex).
  • Panic - costs 3 APs (Panic = all units participating in the combat must retreat two hexes).
  • Step Loss - costs 4 APs (flip a unit to its reduced strength side or remove a reduced strength side unit from play).

It is the owning player's choice how to spend the APs on his unit(s). He may always spend more APs than the required amount of APs which is the same as the total received of the dice rolled by the opponent player.
Example: The defending player must spend the 12 APs on combat actions that the attacking player just rolled. Both of the defending units in the target hex are on their frontside and not currently Broken. The defending player decides to spend the 12 APs in the following way:
Unit A - Broken 1 Level (2 APs) and then to Broken 2 Levels (3 APs) = a total of 5 APs.
Unit B - same as Unit A = a total of 5 APs.
Both units retreat = a total of 2 APs.
This is a grand total of 12 APs (5 + 5 + 2). Both units are seriously Broken and have retreated, but no step losses were needed on the units. The next thing is that the defending player rolls his 1 die. If he rolls a 5 or 6 he may continue to roll (Defender Bonus DR). The result of the die (or dice) rolled by the defending player is converted into APs in the same way as with the attacking player's DRs. The attacking player spends APs in the same way based on the total result of the dice rolled by the defending player. The combat is over.
The "Defender Bonus DR" is included in the game to simulate that the defender is effectively dug-in but in an abstract way as there are no dug-in markers in the game. This rule will give a better balance and also add more dynamics in a combat.

NEW GAME FROM MIKUGAMES!

Since July 2014, I have been working on a new game. The game is called TORNIO '44 and is about the largest battle that took place in Finland during the Lapland War 1944-45.

TORNIO '44 is a light and highly playable company-level game between the Finnish and German forces around the towns of Tornio and Kemi in northern Finland, close to the Swedish border. The game is very well researched and the components will be of a high quality. In Volume 3 of The Finnish Trilogy 1939-1945 was a small scenario about this battle but in both a larger scale and area. The TORNIO '44 game focuses on a much smaller area and the scale is much more detailed and accurate.

The game is currently being playtested and I'm very pleased with the results so far. Only minor adjustments are needed. The game is very even and exciting and includes a lot of interesting rules and features. See the samples and game facts on the right column. Click to enlarge the pictures. I will place more samples soon, especially from the playtesting. The samples are almost the final game art.

It is now possible to pre-order the game. It will be available in two alternatives; a boxed version including also two regular six-sided dice, and a ziplock (unboxed) version without any dice. The printing will start on the first week of April.

The release date for TORNIO '44 will be on Monday, April 20th, 2015. This means that the pre-order period for the game ends on Sunday, April 19th, 2015 at 24.00 hours Swedish time.

I hope that you will find the TORNIO '44 game interesting.

Best Regards,
Miku

PS. On April 27th, 2015 will be 70 years since the Second World War ended in Finland. The battle in and around the towns of Tornio and Kemi was to be the last major Finnish campaign during the war. I want to celebrate this event by releasing the TORNIO ’44 game.

January 12th, 2015
This Sunday (Jan. 18th) I will reveal the new game I'm currently working on. It will also be possible to pre-order the game from that point onwards via PayPal or bank transfer. This website will at the same time have a slightly new look.

January 3rd, 2015
All three volumes in The Finnish Trilogy 1939-1945 are now sold out!
I want to thank all of you who ordered any or all of these volumes!
A couple of stores here in Sweden still have a few Vol. 1 Winter War games left.

The FINTRI videos part IV-VI will be delayed a couple of months. I needed to take a short break from The Finnish Trilogy in order to clear my mind and focus on the new game I'm currently developing. It will be a light and higly playable Company-level game about a topic that I will reveal, with samples, on the first week of January 2015. It will from then on also be possible to pre-order it.

I still have a handful of Vol. 1 Winter War games left. They were at first reserved for a couple of stores, but it has turned out that they have gone out of business. Vol. 2 and 3 are, however, sold out.

August 2014
August 26th, 2014
After a much needed summer holiday, I’m more or less back in business.
Here are the future plans:

(1) I have started to correct all errata, miss prints and design flaws that I have found in the various game components of The Finnish Trilogy. I will print the Master Rules Manual 2.0 sometimes during early 2015. I’m also improving all other game components in case I will do some additional reprinting and also for a possible reprint of the complete trilogy. If I decide to do a reprint, this will, however, not take place until autumn 2016.
(2) I have currently the Extended Winter War Campaign set up at home. I will play it (and later also the Continuation War Main Campaign) as much as possible in order to improve certain rules and features even more (for the MRM 2.0).
(3) I will make a short video end of this year where I explain and show how to set-up and play a complete Game Turn in both a Small Scenario and a Main Campaign. It will be possible to download this video from my website.
(4) I will attach an Extended Master Sequence of Play chart (created by Tapio Aropaltio) on my website very soon. It will include all possible features that can take part in any of the three volumes in The Finnish Trilogy. Hopefully, this chart will make the playing slightly easier.
(5) Without revealing too much, I have also started to plan for a new game. This game will be a very light, company-level game about a small battle in Finland during WWII that has never been portrayed before as a boardgame (except somewhat in FINTRI). It will include only one countersheet (192 die-cut unit counters), 4 pages of rules, regular six-sided dice, an A2-sized map and a couple of charts. I will reveal more about this game later this year and maybe also start taking pre-orders. If I receive enough pre-orders, the plan is that the game will enter production sometimes during 2015.

April 2014
April 23rd, 2014
Unfortunately, there is a two week delay in the production. I discovered that some of the countersheets for Vol. 1 and Vol. 2 needs to be reprinted due to bad die-cutting or issues with the colors. This means that I can only assemble and ship Vol. 3 at the moment! I'm, however, doing certain preparations that will increase the speed during assembly/shipping once these countersheets are ready. Sorry for this delay!
700 out of a total of 1100 game boxes have been assembled and shipped so far. 400 are left to do.

April 8th, 2014
I have started to ship the Vol. 3 Lapland War expansion and complete sets of The Finnish Trilogy. This will take several weeks. All new orders will also take time to ship. Please, be patient!

Game status as of April 8th:
Vol. 1 Winter War game = 36 games are currently remaining.
Vol. 2 Continuation War game = 6 games are currently remaining.
Vol. 3 Lapland War expansion = SOLD OUT!.

March 13th, 2014
Pre-order period for Vol. 2 Continuation War ends next Monday (March 17th) at 24.00 hours Swedish time! On Tuesday (March 18th) I will start shipping the game. It will take several days before I have shipped to all pre-orderers.

Game status as of March 13th:
Vol. 1 Winter War game = 66 games are currently remaining.
Vol. 2 Continuation War game = 43 games are currently remaining.
Vol. 3 Lapland War expansion = 16 expansions are currently remaining.

March 5th, 2014
Game status as of March 5th:

(3) Shipping date & pre-order deadline for Vol. 2 will be on March 17th.
(4) FAQ/Errata for Vol. 1 and the rules in general will soon be posted in the menu with the same name.

February 4th, 2014
The Pre-order-period for Vol. 1 and for the Whole Trilogy have ended. The order/pre-order menu will be closed for at least one week (at least until February 10th) while new PayPal Payment buttons are made. I will start shipping Vol. 1 Winter War game tomorrow (Wednesday). This will take a couple of days.

February 1st, 2014
All components are finished. I will start shipping Vol. 1 on Tuesday or Wednesday. The pre-order window for Vol. 1 closes on Monday (February 3rd) at 24.00 hours (Swedish time).

January 2014
January 23rd, 2014
Only the maps are still to be printed. Therefore, I will keep the pre-order window for Vol. 1 Winter War game (and any combination where it is included) still open, but not for many days.

I have posted some pictures on the components here: www.consimworld.com (Game Company Support Forum - Mikugames).

One good news is that the printers have printed so many extra components that it will be possible to assemble additional complete games of each volume (Vol. 1 + 60, Vol. 2 + 20 and Vol. 3 +20).

This gives the final number of each volume remaining as of January 23rd:
Vol. 1 Winter War game = 120 games are currently remaining.
Vol. 2 Continuation War game = 103 games are currently remaining.
Vol. 3 Lapland War expansion = 68 expansions are currently remaining.

January 18th, 2014
More Delays!
We are currently 2 additional days behind the schedule. We will print the rules and maps on Monday-Tuesday next week. I will prepare for assembly on Wednesday, assemble (pack) on Thursday and ship on Friday (if the company that will shrinkwrap the games have a slot in their production). Otherwise, A.S.A.P. the week after that.

Sorry once again for all these delays. The problem is that this whole game production requires a lot of logistics.
Therefore, I will close the pre-order window on Wednesday 22nd (not Monday 20th).

All game components (apart of the rules and maps) are 100% finished.

January 10th, 2014
Further Delays!
We are behind the schedule with 9-10 days! Sorry!
All game components are finished, except the rules (MRM and 3x RBs) and maps that are to be printed end of next week.
On Monday 20th and Tuesday 21st, I will pack the Winter War games.
On Wednesday 22nd, they will be shrinkwrapped and shipped.
On Thursday 23rd, the remaining games (if any) will be shipped.

This means that all volumes will be delayed with 9-10 days.
The final pre-order deadline for Vol. 1 Winter War game is:
Monday 20th at 24.00 hours (Swedish time).

This is the last call!

December 2013
December 14th, 2013
The following game components (for all three volumes) are finished:
Gameboxes; HQ Breakdown Box Sheets; Stacking Marker Box Sheets; and Countersheets. The countersheets, however, will be die-cut next week. This process is very difficult and will take some time. Also, the game boxes have been made in the Netherlands and will arrive on Monday. Other than that, all game components are printed at the same printer in Stockholm, Sweden. I must say that I’m very satisfied with the quality of the components so far.

BUT, we (mostly because of me) are behind the schedule of the printing of the remaining game components, which are:
Orders of Battles; Maps (both large and small); Charts/Tables; Rules Booklets; and Master Rules Manual.

Fortunately it’s a win-win situation. The printers are very busy next week and would have had difficulties in printing all these remaining components in such a short timeframe. On the other hand, I have been way to optimistic time wise (again!). I simply need more time to finish and correct these remaining components. All the remaining game components will be finished this year but not printed, packed or shrink wrapped until the first days of 2014. I’m sorry about this!

This means that the pre-order deadlines and thus the shipping dates have been postponed to:
Vol. 1 Winter War = January 13th, 2014
Vol. 2 Continuation War = February 3rd, 2014
Vol. 3 Lapland War = February 24th, 2014 (the same as before).

This means that there will be a three week interval between all three volumes (instead of four). All of you who have pre-ordered all three volumes in the same parcel will not be affected.

I will shut down the pre-order menu on my website a day or two at each deadline, to be able to change the old PayPal “pay buttons” with new ones.

Each volume will be for sale in some stores in Sweden and Finland ca two weeks after each pre-order deadline, mainly because I want to show my gratitude to all who have made a pre-order. They definitely deserve to receive the games before the general public.

The worst thing in this delay is that my deal with the shipping company (the Swedish Postal Service) for 2013 will be lost. We are working on a new deal for 2014, but it will not be as good since I will only ship one quarter of the original plan due to the low print issue. As I have mentioned before, this is a no profit project.

You who make, or have already made, a pre-order will not notice any difference in the price, but the shipping cost thereafter will be much higher. Therefore, I highly recommend all of you who are planning to order the games after the pre-order period, to reconsider. All three games will be of the retail price together with a much higher shipping cost (especially to “outside Europe”, which I’m currently subsidizing).

There is of course a minor possibility that I will do a new, and this time a large, print run of The Finnish Trilogy in the late 2017 when Finland is turning 100 years as an independent nation (on December 6th), but it is too early to speculate. Meanwhile, I have no other games or game plans in the pipeline.

October 9th, 2013
Dear Gamers,

I have today ordered and paid for the custom made dice, which I should receive in 5-6 weeks. At the end of October, I will meet the printers and go through the final stages before starting the printing process on these games. In early November we will start making the game boxes (they take the longest time to do). Thereafter we will print the countersheets, maps, etc. By the first half of December, all components for Vol. 1 Winter War game will be printed and ready for assembly, shrink wrap, and delivery. I will send the games on December 16th to all who have made a pre-order for the Vol. 1 Winter War game only, and to all who have ordered the game to be sent separately from any other volume ordered. This means that most of you will have the game by Christmas. Vol. 2 & 3 will be printed pretty much simultaneously as Vol. 1, but they will not be assembled and delivered until January/February 2014.

I want to point out that since the number of pre-orders received is rather low (currently 279) and I don’t want to, or dare to, borrow more money than what I already have and will do; the print run will be very low (with no profit). I feel that I cannot and want not wait any longer with the printing. Hopefully sometimes in the future I can do a bigger print run.

An average calculation (before talking to the printers) is to print:
400 x Vol. 1 Winter War games
320 x Vol. 2 Continuation War games
280 x Vol. 3 Lapland War expansions

Another story is that I have a plan to print a revised Master Rules Manual in a year or two, which will cost nothing to order, except for the postage cost (also downloadable for free from my website). This is because these monstergames would actually need more playtesting to cover every minor situation in play. Sorry!

//Miku

PS. Mikugames will not co-operate with any other game company in the making of The Finnish Trilogy. One reason is that there is hardly any profit on these games due to their current low price in comparison to the amount of material they include.

I'm currently streamlining the rules and the Master Rules Manual. The number of pages have been reduced from 48 to 36. This have been possible due to removal of charts and tables, that will now only include on separate sheets, and due to removing a lot of unnecessary jibberish in the text. I'm not quite yet in a final stage, instead I will need more work on the rules and the maps, but also more time for testing. Some of the major features in the game can be played in several ways, and I have to find out which is the best one to use in the end. Basically, all other game components are finished and need only final proofreading and checking. All this means that I will need the entire summer for testing, proofreading, and to finish all components (and some holiday too...). No printing will start, and no PayPal will be attached, until August. I will place more samples of the components in the beta news menu along the way.

Newsletter N:o 19 will be sent on Sunday, to all who have ordered it in the Pre-order menu.

March 5th, 2012
The focus during this month (March), is the rules and the mapboards, that will need an additional one or two weeks of work.

The most important news is, that Vol. 1 Winter War, will also include the Extended Campaign with the Foreign Intervention. This means that the game will include all features necessary to play every aspect of the Winter War. Eight countersheets instead of seven means also that the price tag will be higher on this game, but lower on the Vol. 3 Lapland War expansion, were these x-tra features were to be at first. When compairing the ups and downs of this manuevre, this way was the best. It saves me a lot of extra work to not split things up. The final prices for all voulmes will be announced when the PayPal is attached sometimes in late April. This last-minute-change of plans has cost me valuable time, which means that I'm almost two weeks behind scedule.

Newsletter N:o 19 will be done sometimes in the second half of March.

I will need at least 450 paid pre-orders for each volume, before I can go for a print run! PayPal will not be attached until the games are in a final production stage, which will very likely be in February 2012.

February 2012
February 8th, 2012
All OOBs will be finished this week. It's been an extensive work. Small adjustments will happen though until the very last minute before printing. Starting next week, I'll move on to the mapboards and I will work on them throughout February. No Pay-Pal will be attached until late March/early April (the same goes with the planned flyer).

January 2012
January 10th, 2012
All nationalities have now a background image. Two more air units and naval units have recieved a silhouette. There are still ca 6 air units and 10 naval units to fix. For the remaining days in Janauary, the focus is on the OOBs. In February it is on the mapboards and charts. In March, the remaining rules.

All countersheets (final testversion) have now been checked and posted in the Beta-News menu. The only things that still need to be done, are background images for some nationalities, and silhouettes for certain air and naval units. My next project is to finish all OOBs, which will take 3-4 weeks. I will post a couple of samples from each volume within 1-2 weeks.

November 3rd, 2011
I'm currently matching the Countersheets with the OOBs, so that no units have been left out. All countersheets (final testversion) will be posted this weekend.

October 2011
October 13th, 2011
Hello everyone, Here is a status report on The Finnish Trilogy 1939-1945. I divide the game project in six main categories: (1) Unit counters, (2) Countersheets, (3) Mapboards, (4) OOBs, (5) Rules (all), and (6) Other (charts, game box, dice, a.o). Below refers to all the three volumes in the trilogy, since they are made simultaneously.
(1) Units:
All unit counters (units) are finished, except that silhouettes are still missing on some air and naval units. Some background images for certain countries are also missing at this point. This has a low priority and will be fixed at the end. Estimated working time left is 1 week. The problem is more of finding the proper pictures of the air and naval units from where to make the silhouettes.
(2) Countersheets:
All countersheets will be finished within a week or two, thereafter I will do a final crosscheck with the OOBs that no units have been forgotten. I will post all countersheets on my website at the end of October.
(3) Mapboards:
The two mapboards will need more work, such as additional holding boxes and terrain features. All hexes need to be checked to remove any terrain uncertainties. Estimated time to fix all of this is 2-3 weeks.
(4) OOBs:
The OOBs still require a lot of attention. I'm doing a major improvement on the design and structure. All actions will take 4-5 weeks. I will post a few samples on my website in mid November.
(5) Rules:
The rules (both the master rules manual and the rules booklets) are not finished. Some new rules need testing. The naval rules have not been properly tested. More testing are needed to get an idea of the play balance in the various scenarios and the main campaigns. Finally, everything needs 1-2 proof readings. All of this will take 5+ weeks.
(6) Other:
Charts and tables need only ca 1 week of work. Updates are needed to match the latest rules and features. The game boxes have their frontsides finished (as they have been for a while), but the backsides need some work (text and pictures). This will take one additional week.

This means unfortunately, that no games will be completely finished this year. My focus is to have all unit counters, countersheets and mapboards finished by Christmas, and the rest during February-March. Printing starts thereafter.

Sorry for all these delays, but I promise that I'm working as much I currently can. /Miku

Pre-orders to date:
Vol. 1 Winter War; 549 (+9)
Vol. 2 Continuation War; 437 (+6)
Vol. 3 Lapland War; 423 (+6)

I will need at least 450 paid pre-orders for each volume, before I can go for a print run! PayPal will not be attached until the game is in a final production stage. I am not quite there yet, but preliminary in December 2011.

September 7th, 2011
Hello everyone. After a time-period of silence, it's time to go public. The project is very much proceeding and in fact quite nicely too. Many improvements and adjustments have occured during this summer. I still work so hard to get these games out one day, that I have even got slight health issues due to stress. This has forced me to reconsider. I'd rather stay away from a major burn-out at the age of 40, and be realistic in terms of the finnish lines and release dates, than try to keep up the crazy deadlines I'm constantly creating for myself. This game-trilogy is, especially for a first-timer, ridiculously hard to do, and I constantly fix minor bugs (and a few larger too). I understand, if some of you are starting to get frustrated over this constantly "unfinished trilogy", but believe me, in the long run, you'll be glad that I pulled in the break, to give these games the right amount of attention they require and need. I'll probably finish all three games by Christmas 2011, but then it's time to go into the printing process, which can take 1-2 months (or who knows, even more). From now on, I will post info about the progress of the games every week. If the Winter War also won't make it until Christmas, at least I'll make sure that those of you who are interested, can download all necessary material to play the small Winter War scenario 1 (Salla), to get a taste of what to come.

May 2011
May 15th, 2011
Due to limited amount of time right now, Newsletter N:o 18 is cancelled for time being. I will post more and more stuff in the Beta-news menu accordingly. I'm mainly working on the most difficult game component, the rules, that will need a lot of further attention. I will continue working on all three games simultaneously. VAT-registration and PayPal function are not brought up until all games are in a printing-ready condition. Since there are still a lot of things to do and improve, further delays of all three games are expected, see to the right.

Have a nice summer!

All counters (5166 pcs.) to be used in the playtesting of the complete trilogy, are now finally done. It has taken a while to glue, cut and sort them. Meanwhile, I'm cutting and sorting unit counters for all volumes for the upcoming playtesting of version 0.99c. Today it is 70 years since the Winter War started. I agree that it would have been nice if the first game were ready by now. Unfortunately we have not reached the final production stage quite yet. The PayPal will therefore not be attached until beginning of the next year (2010). It is of great importance that the rules and components are working properly, which means that I need more time. The two other volumes in the trilogy will be easier to finish, once the basic foundation is all set. The rules and OOBs becomes better for each day, so I am getting there...just keep up...

Sorry, no Winter War game this year! I have not been able to start testing the version 0.98 yet, but will do so next week. The test group will then take over the testing later in November. Many last-minute improvements and changes on all the game components have taken a lot of time. I will explain some of the unique(?) rules and features in the trilogy in the next Newsletter (#14), which will be an open version and posted here on my website soon. All ground unit counters have now a new look. The dot has been replaced with one of the four CAL-group unit symbols in colour: Infantry, Artillery, AFV & HQ. The HQ has its Command Radius written inside the symbol. Also, all "Light Infantry" units are distinguished by a coloured circle around the movement factor. See below.

All units are currently been replaced in the Finnish Trilogy menu. They are now larger in size and without a shadow. Check them out! I will soon post some samples of the 0.96 version of the game components in the Picture Gallery (to the right).

September 6th, 2008
I'm currently working on the 0.96 version of the rules. Especially the stacking and combat rules will be somewhat improved and ready for testing October 1st.
The plan is to start testing the main campaign with the 0.97 version of the rules on December 1st.

Due to the fact that Betatesting takes much more time than anticipated (also because of my unexperience), and the need of another 80 pre-orders, the Winter War game will not be ready and for sale this year. I'm sorry about that. There's no point to announce a new preliminary release date at this moment. As soon as I have an idea, I'll let you know.

I will add one or two more scenarios for all games in the trilogy, since I've noticed that the demand for small and fast campaigns is high. After all, the main campaign is huge and takes a lot of time to play (and test).

I have decided to make these three games in the way they were intended from the start, without any political limitations. This means that the German insignias will be portrayed correctly as they were before I removed them. I apologize for the inconvenience this might cause to some people. I shouldn't have changed anything in the first place, since I'm only following the history here and we can't deny that certain evil symbols were used.

We have currently received 270 pre-orders to date (for the survey) after two months in public, great! Mikugames has agreed to remove the German Nazi-swastika from all game components. The reason they were there to start with, was that we wanted the games to be historically correct, nothing else. Note! The Finnish Airforce used a blue swastika on all of its military air units 1918-1945 and had nothing to do with the German counterpart or Nazism! Therefore they are NOT removed!

September 21st, 2007
We are now also showing two samples of the Soviet countersheets (front & back) from the Winter War campaign. Work is still in progress, though. Check them out!

The first newsletter will be sent this weekend, to all who have ordered it in the "pre-order" menu.
